At the end of each year, the Deanery
convene an Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP).
For those GP registrars in Year 3, this will be held at
least 6 weeks before the end of training (i.e. it will
be held in June). The ARCP is to make
recommendations to the Deanery as to the progression of
the GP Registrar through training. Recommendations may
be made for the coming year. Forms will be sent from the
Deanery for completion by the GP Registrar for
submission
to the ARCP panel. They will also have access to the
Educational Supervisors Structured Report (ESSR).
The Educational
Supervisor's Review
Each GP Registrar will have an
Educational Supervisor assigned to them. In Nottingham,
this is the Trainer in the final year of practice (Year
3). I cannot stress the importance of the close
interaction between the GP Registrar and Educational
Supervisor strongly enough. The supervisor is the
essential link between WBA and the Deanery and the ARCP
panel.
There will be a minimum of three meetings
per year with your Educational Supervisor
| Annual planning:
- within first 4 weeks of the start of the year- end August/ beginning
September |
The aim of this meeting is to set up the Personal
Development Plan (PDP) using the e-Portfolio layout. This will layout
the educational objectives for the year |
| Mid year review:
- at about 6 months around January |
This is a review of progress using the e-Portfolio.
|
| End of year review:
- around the last week May/beginning of June |
Final review of the years work with the completion of
the Educational Supervisors Structured Report (ESSR) for submission to
the Deanery. This report is generated directly from the e-portfolio. For
those in Year 3, ensure that the ESSR is completed at least 8 weeks
before the end of training so that it can be forwarded to the ACRP panel
in order for CCT's (Certificates of Completion of Training) to be sent
to PMETB. |
Additional Educational supervisor
assessments/meeting.
These do not
necessarily need to be face to face meetings. They could be e-mail
discussions.
It is
suggested that there should be some feedback at the end of each 4 month
appointment. Prior to completion of the 4 month appointment, the GP
Registrar will have had a Clinical Supervisors report completed (the Trainer
will also provide the same report). This will be added to the e-Portfolio.
Your Educational Supervisor should check your e-portfolio and assess your
progress in that appointment but will need this report in order to make a
better informed view of progress.
| 1st appointment Aug-Nov |
Discuss appointment progress (once Clinical
Supervisors report completed) end of November or beginning December |
| 2nd appointment Dec-Mar |
Discuss appointment progress (once Clinical
Supervisors report completed) end of March or beginning April |
| 3rd appointment Apr-Jul |
Discuss appointment progress (once Clinical
Supervisors report completed) end of July or beginning following
August. NB. For Year 3 GP Registrars, you will
be in General Practice. This will be combined with your End of Year
review and submission of the ESSR |
