Outline of the course Post outline Teaching aims Your year in GP Practice Overseas Doctors Selection process How to apply

The selection process is broken down into four stages

  1. Long listing. The eligibility of the candidate will be checked using an electronic application system.

  2. Short listing. This is broken down into two separate processes. Because of plagiarism, both parts a) and b) will be taken under exam conditions.

    1. MCQ. This is a 3 hour paper. This is to test that the applicant has sufficient clinical knowledge to start GP training. The level of knowledge is that of what is to be expected of a PRHO/Foundation year one doctor. This will be simply regarded as a pass/fail test. This is otherwise known as a high jump or hurdle as we just want to know if you can get over the bar. How well you do is not relevant

    2. A two hour paper, it is a competency based questionnaire which is similar to the currently competency based questionnaire used for short listing. Each candidate is allowed to do as well as they can. The scores are then taken into account and this allows candidates to be ranked and selected for the next stage of the process

  3. Selection centre. As well as comprising exercises used in the assessment process, applicants will be able to talk to Course Organisers and discuss course requirements which can be taken into consideration should the applicant be successful following the selection day. The selection day itself comprises of three exercises

    • A patient simulation

    • A group exercise

    • A written exercise

  4. Allocation. Once we are satisfied that the applicant can proceed to GP training, the Course Organises and Administrators allocate applicants to the appropriate training posts. References are also reviewed
