Pain Relief & Splintage Session

 

Alfreton - Fire Station

The first faculty session of the year is set to cover many aspects of Pre-Hospital Analgesia options including splintage.
The session is aimed at all skill levels including Technician, Paramedic & Doctor Pain relief methods.
Sessions are to be delivered By Dr Mark Folman – EMICS Chair, Dr Pam Hardy- Faculty Chair & Andy Lee - MC Para, Faculty Secretary.
The session includes short presentations as well as an opportunity for a hands-on practical session (the giving of drugs not included).

Managing the Agitated Patient

Most of us have experienced the challenges of managing an agitated patient within our scope and limitations of pre-hospital practice. This session will explore the various causes and effects relating to this situation and provide some strategies for safe management of such patients.

Extrication Lecture

Andy Lee, SRPara, Full-time member of the UK Fire & Rescue Service, BASICS Instructor, Technical Rescue Instructor, RTC Assessor for UKRO & Author of the SMART@Scene course.

Extrication can at times be a challenge for members of the Emergency Services. The session is designed to introduce & develop skills in reading the incident, determining extrication priorities & extrication routes & evolutions. It will include tri-service considerations & terminology, discuss common difficulties & enhance the decision making process creating synergy between medical & physical rescue priorities.

Professor Malcolm Woollard, Director of the Pre-hospital, Emergency & Cardiovascular Care Applied Research Group at Coventry University (UK), honorary consultant paramedic & registered nurse. Past Chair of the College of Paramedics

Obtaining valid consent and assessing capacity can be a legal and ethical minefield in an emergency situation. Professor Woollard has a wealth of practical and academic experience to help guide us through some of the common situations we may encounter in practice and the legislation relevant to them.

The session will address recent advances in the pre-hospital management of pelvic fractures through case presentations and the opportunity to participate in the practical application of pelvic splints currently being introduced in the region.

The lecture targeted at all levels of Pre-Hospital responders will cover recognition and management of key areas of Paediatrics in Pre-Hospital settings.
